Every so often, it’s worth stopping to consider your life.
Are you where you want to be? Do you wake up most days relaxed or excited, or do you drag yourself out of bed? Do you have plans for the future?
Are you happy?
Most of us will experience things in life that make us unhappy. Maybe it’s a something that once brought you joy, but now the lustre has faded and things have become routine or even painful.
It might be that a small change will fix things: a new fitness regime, a haircut, maybe a new route to work is enough to lift your spirits.
But you might be at that point. You know the one I’m talking about: the creeping sense that something bigger needs to change. Something at the core of your life, of who you are.
Maybe it’s a relationship, or a job, or a home. Perhaps it’s time to move to a new city, a new country. Start over.
You’ve probably known for a while, on some level. Things aren’t right. You long for something different. It might be that you want more: more challenge, more experience, more money, more dreams.
Whether you want to pursue something new, or escape something that no longer makes you smile, it can be hard to make a change. Making the decision is the first step.
I don’t embrace change easily. It takes time for me to think myself into a new space or a new phase in my life. There’s a tipping point, where the months of planning and wondering and emotional turmoil give way to something else. I’ve made a choice and there’s a peace that comes with that.
Of course, there’s a difference between making a decision and making a change. Dangling your foot over the edge of the precipice that stand between you and a new life and letting go.
It’s time to step over the edge, into the unknown.
It’s time to fly.
